A cat that was adopted as a kitten over a decade ago was returned to the shelter under circumstances that left netizens furious.
In a video posted on TikTok, the Humane Society of East Carolina (HSEC) introduced followers to Arthur, a “loyal and loving” rescued cat with a history at the shelter.
“Arthur was adopted as a kitten in 2013. On February 29, he was returned to us,” said an HSEC spokesperson to Newsweek.
“The reason he was returned, according to his surrender form, was ‘I’m moving in with my boyfriend and he is allergic'”, explained the spokesperson.
This revelation angered many netizens who watched Arthur’s video. The clip, posted on HSEC’s TikTok page, has already garnered over 600,000 views.
“Imagine choosing a man over a cat,” commented one TikTok user. “He would never have gotten a second date. That’s my son,” said another internet user.
“Never! My father was allergic and took allergy shots to [live with] my mother’s cats. If he wanted to, he would do it,” stated a third. “If my boyfriend was allergic to my baby and couldn’t just deal with it, then he’s not the one,” emphasized another.
Arthur is now back at the shelter where he started, facing a tough battle to find another forever home. “He is extremely overweight. He is also being brushed every day, as he is too overweight to groom himself.”
“Arthur enjoys being brushed and cuddled. He would do best in a home where he is the only feline and has an owner who will continue his journey towards better health,” added the HSEC spokesperson.
